I’m beyond excited for my upcoming opportunity in November to vibrate Audium’s 176 speakers as a resident artist. If you haven’t been before, you owe yourself the amazing experience, it really is a one of a kind.
These performances will be the culmination of several months of work, and more generally, at least a decade of development as my electro-acoustic drum set has evolved into a rather unwieldy mess of gadgets and wires.
Please see my calendar for details, and hope you can catch one of the shows!
An exploration of oscillations and opposites: large-small, organic-synthetic, vast-microscopic, familiar-unprecedented, and many more simultaneous layers of vibration. Through the blending of an unusual palette of aural elements (drums, percussion, field recordings, live synthesis/processing, musical themes, improvisation, resonance, chaotic systems), a variety of moods and states of perception will unfold throughout Audium’s space, along with an invitation to consider the scale and nature of the waves that carry the entirety of our existence.
Beyond the narrow bands to which our senses are tuned, waves of massive and infinitesimal scale continue their dance unseen by our eyes, unheard by our ears, unfelt by our nerves. ~W~a~V~e~R~ is a question to the listener, as we ask ourselves whether the tools of machinery can be balanced with organic life in such a way as to coax open a window to these larger and smaller waves. The medium of sound-music within Audium’s immersive environment is ideally suited to this inquiry, as it evolves over many concurrent time scales in both technological and organic ways.
