Jon Arkin Workshop: Drum Soloing

This workshop, open to drummers of all levels, will delve into various aspects of jazz drum soloing. Beginners will learn foundational concepts like the drummer’s role and responsibilities during a solo, understanding song forms, trading, and building a solo vocabulary. Intermediate and advanced drummers will explore melodic approaches, thematic development, dynamics, time feel, and the ultimate goal of transcending technique to express a unique musical voice. Listening examples will highlight the soloing styles of historically influential jazz drummers.
